The touch factor

I believe that technology really fulfilled its promise, to make our lives easier. Communication is really a big deal for us these days to the point that it made our country the text capital in the world.
But texting is not enough; leading telecommunications companies in our country introduced various promos that help us avail of unlimited texts and calls in a lower rate. The telecommunications companies are not the only ones who were busy in the past years. Smart phones were also introduced by several mobile companies. These phones are not that patronized because of its very common functionalities.

Not until Apple introduced iPhone early of year 2007 then iPhone 3GS last June 2009. As I could remember, people go crazy over this new phone, not only because it’s from Apple but because of its new functionality, a phone which can be navigated by your fingertips. Later that year, several touch screen smart phones from big mobile companies came sprouting out from the market. I also became a fan of iPhone, not until I heard about Samsung Omnia i900, they say it’s an iPhone killer.

I searched and compared these devices. The things that are listed below are the summaries of what I’ve found out. I also included a point system within each category.

In terms of portability, Samsung is smaller than iPhone with a dimension of 112 x 56.9 x 12.5 mm compared to iPhone’s 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3 mm. When we talk about its weight, Samsung Omnia weighs 122g compared to iPhone which weighs 135g.

In terms of memory, Samsung Omnia is designed to store 8GB or 16GB of files while iPhone can be purchased from 16GB or 32GB.
(Samsung/iPhone)

In terms of display, Samsung is 240 x 400 pixels, 3.2 inches. iPhone had a 3.5-inch display, and 480 by 320 pixel resolution.

For the camera, photos, and videos, iPhone had a 3 megapixel camera, auto focus, and video recording capability. Samsung on other hand had a 5 megapixel camera, auto focus, with LED flash.

And the very important factor is the talk time and standby time of these phones. Its power and battery life is considered as the deciding factor of every buyer. Samsung can have a standby time of up to 500 hours, and a talk time of up to 5 hours & 50 min (2G) / 6 hours 30 min (3G). Iphone can last of up to 300 hours of standby time, and talk time of up to 12 hours(2G), 5 hours(3G).
(Samsung/iPhone)

To sum it up, I believe that buying a Samsung Omnia is favorable than purchasing an iPhone. All of these are just based on facts and honest opinions, it is still up to the person on whether or not he wants to follow the suggestion.
